About Us

At C.A.Ts of Flagstaff,  our mission is to transform lives by empowering people with the tools to survive and thrive through the creation of community. We use the Diné term k’é to express our belief that we are all related and responsible for each other’s well-being. We reach out to engage unsheltered and disenfranchised relatives where they are and accept them without judgment.

Community Assistance Teams of Flagstaff is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and an Arizona Qualified Charitable Organization. Our federal EIN is 87-1996568 and our Arizona QCO number is 22548.

Our Values

Our K’é (Kinship) Values

Recognition of Relative

We do not have "clients," "cases," or "problems to solve." We have relatives. K’é means looking directly at our unsheltered neighbors and acknowledging their full humanity, their history, and their inherent value as assets to the Flagstaff community.

Unconditional Care

Care is not transactional. We provide physical and mental respite without requirements, limits, or judgment. We meet our relatives where they are, because kinship does not demand a "return on investment" before offering a hand.

Radical Rehumanization

We provide the tools not just to survive, but to live; offering paths to economic sufficiency (People at Work), mobility (Bikes), and creative expression (Fat CATs). We believe a relative is only well when they have the freedom to be creative and self-sufficient.

Shared Responsibility

K’é dictates that the well-being of the unsheltered relative is inextricably linked to the well-being of the entire city. CATS serves as the "Bridge of K’é," inviting the broader Flagstaff community to move from "looking away" to "stepping in," transforming the city into a village where everyone belongs.
